Toy story – hide and seek

November 24th, 2009

So where is yours hidden? Is it in your knicker drawer? At the back of the bathroom cabinet? Is it stuffed under sweaters in your wardrobe? Or is it concealed in a sock in your tallboy?

Storing vibrators can be quite tricky. Firstly you’ll want to hide your toy so that it is not accindetally found…by your kids for example – or maybe even by your husband!

Your next priority should be to store your vibrator in such a way that it doesn’t become damaged. This is especially important if your new vibe is going to join other toys of different materials that may (or may not) react well with one another. Vibrators are also motorised objects that contain some metal parts so correct storage of your playmate is important.

Here are a few tips about storing your vibrator:

Don’t store your vibes in direct sunlight (as if!) and remove all the batteries so that they do not corrode the metallic components of your vibrator. Leaving the batteries inside your vibrator also wears the batteries down and therefore shortens their life.

Always store your adult toys in a dry place – damp corners such as cupboards under bathroom sinks for instance – can be thriving places for bacteria to grow. In addition to this, the metal battery strips in the vibrator’s ‘tube’ don’t mix well with moisture and can corrode.

Never expose vibrators to excessive heat. This could even cause a combustible situation with your batteries or simply melt the materials.

Store your 'toys' separately - do not place them all together in the same drawer. The materials of some adult toys can discolour, mark/stain or leave mildewy-looking marks on other ones. In particular, jelly vibrators and vinyl ones don’t go well together – the jelly appears to ‘warp’. If you keep them all the same drawer, at least make sure that each one is wrapped in its own pouch or container.

Do not keep vibrators where they can collect dust or animal hair, especially so with jelly vibrators that seem to be ‘magnets’ for fluff and airborne particles.

Do store your vibrator and any other toys you might have in a dark and dry place. Some people keep them in a drawer between cotton underwear or other clothing for padding. Always keep your adult toys at room temperature; clean your toys scrupulously after each use and remove the batteries.

Store your vibes in a toy bag or pouch or in a special toy box. These storage items are usually satin or velvet or if they’re a box they have some soft material with plush padding on the inside.
